How To Start Your Own Article Promotion Campaign Starting an article promotion campaign is very straight forward. If you include links to your own site in the body of your article it becomes a little bit of a sales letter in disguise, and this is not our goal. The bottom of the article should be used as an "About the Author" box. Write a little bit (around 250 characters) about yourself, but most importantly invite the reader to click to your website.

In order for this box to be effective you must keep your ego stroking to the minimum and use this text to call the reader to action. Give your readers a good reason to click to your website. The following examples will show you how your about boxes should look.

Bad Example - What Not To Do My name is John Doe, I have been riding motorcycles my whole entire life. I grew up in Mississippi but then I moved up north to New York. I started my website JohnDoesBikeHelmets.com because I thought I could make me some money. Visit my site today!

The Good: John Doe has a call to action: "Visit my site today!".

The Bad: Although he has a call to action, he does not provide a valid reason to visit his site.

The Ugly: Nobody really cares about John Doe's life, including biographical information is a waste of about box space. JohnDoesBikes.com is neither a hyperlink, nor a full URL. People looking for helmets are probably not looking for JohnDoesHelmets.

Better Example - Do This, You Might Get Some Traffic If you are looking for motorcycle helmets you must visit my website today at www.JohnDoesBikeHelmets.com Tired of looking for a helmet online, stop banging your head against the wall! Especially if you are not wearing one of JohnDoe's Helmets!

The Good: Some personality comes through. Call to action. Live hyperlink and full URL.

The Bad: Although the URL is live now, it will still not serve a purpose because most likely people are not looking for JohnDoesBikeHelmets when they search for helmets on search engines.

The Ugly: There is no real reason why a reader should click on the link. No benefits have been pointed out.

The Good: Lots of benefits, great incentive to click on link by adding a discount code, excellent linking technique by using anchor words people will actually be searching for on search engines.

The Bad: The search term "Motorcycle Helmets" can be very competitive and will probably not rank as high in search engines as a less competitive term such as "Custom Painted Motorcycle Helmets"

The Ugly: Some article directories don't allow anchor text on about box links. If that is the case, just place a full live URL.

So far so good. You have a market, you know what your market wants to read about, you have written something to them and you gave them a reason to click into your website. Great job! Now we need to get your article published by many different websites so you get that constant flow of visitors into your site.

In order to let the world know about your articles the best thing you can do is to submit them to article directories. Article directories are websites loaded with free articles.
