Why would an article author write about the search phrase: "Internet Marketing For Dummy"? Well, to explain, we need to look at the different reasons internet marketers engage in article marketing for...

But first, an explanation about the title! See, My original title was: "The Phrase: 'Internet Marketing For Dummy' - A Case Study Of Low Competition In A Busy Niche". I was surprised to find that though, that the article directory I submitted to wouldn't let me use that phrase 'Internet Marketing For Dummy' in the title! Their explanation was that it was using a trade name, presumably the famous series of books: ".... For Dummies" (Not Dummy!) So I had to change the title!

Back to that phrase, and the reason for using it!

Article Marketing Strategy # 1 - (You wouldn't write about 'Internet Marketing For Dummy' for this strategy!)

This strategy uses the power of article marketing to get lots of one-way backlinks to a niche website. Typically you would choose a niche topic with not TOO much competition. Lets first have a look at how you work out the "competition". The easiest way is to type in the niche phrase in inverted commas into Google, like this: "article marketing".

Then, look in the top right hand corner of the Google screen. It will say: "Result 1 - 10 of about 1,090,000 for "article marketing"" That number of around 1 million is the number of websites that contain that specific term (the inverted commas make it search for only that set of words). Note that the number will vary from country to country depending which Google server it's on.

A more sophisticated method is to use a free service called Nichebot (www.nichebot.com/v2/o/). This provides a more accurate estimation of competition in Google, which is explained on the site.

So, from the above, you can see that the term "article marketing" has a far bit of competition. This tells you it's going to be potentially hard for a site to rank well for that keyword phrase without a lot of off-page SEO work.

Article Marketing Strategy # 2 - (You wouldn't write about 'Internet Marketing For Dummy' for this one either!)

This strategy uses the fact that by submitting your article to a high profile article directory like Ezinearticles.com, you will get traffic to your site directly from your link in the resource box. Because of this, targeting higher competition niches may not be such a problem. But you will need to be able to write a good article with a catchy headline to get it noticed and picked up by website owners and Ezine publishers.

Article Marketing Strategy # 3 - (You WOULD write about 'Internet Marketing For Dummy' for this strategy!)

This third strategy is best known as "long tail marketing". It basically involves searching for terms that have much lower competition, and writing articles which are likely to be ranked well if the article has the appropriate "keyword density" for that exact term.

Using this strategy you would do a search using one of the keyword research tools, such as the Yahoo Search Marketing (previously Overture) inventory research feature, or a free software like Good Keywords. Using longer, more complex terms, check out the competition in Google, using the method above.

This brings us to the search phrase: 'Internet Marketing For Dummy'

'Internet Marketing For Dummy' is perhaps a fairly extreme example, and is not necessarily a term that is easy to naturally write an article about! But it's a good demonstration, because, at the time of writing, here in Australia, it produces only 1 result on Google (using inverted commas)! In other words, there is virtually NO competition for this term. - yet last month it had 1039 searches on the Yahoo network. So overall searches across the three major search engine networks would be perhaps in the range of 3000 or more per month!

So it won't be very difficult if you put your article on a well optimized site or a blog, for it to get ranked for this term. Who knows, the actual article in the article directory you submit to could appear in the results as well.

Just because you are listed in one Search Engine does not mean that you are listed in another. Search Engines simply do not work this way.

If you take a moment to look at those sites that are currently doing well in the Search Engines you will notice that sites that are easy to navigate, have simple designs and use graphics that only require a small amount of bandwidth are the sites that are ranking high. This is because Search Engines know that their users like simple, clean designs and thus they have designed their spiders to like these sites as well. These sites are preferable because they allow you to get the content that you want without a lot of fuss. Whenever you design a site you should make this your goal.

Of course, there are some sites that are ranked high in the Search Engines even though they have complex designs. With this in mind you can easily see that a site's design really does not have anything to do with where you will rank in the Search Engines. This is because the only thing that Search Engines are concerned about is text. If your site's content is relevant to what someone is searching for then this is the only thing that a Search Engine is concerned about.

You may also be wondering about the use of meta tags, keywords, descriptions, and titles. While all of these things are important, they are not what is going to make or break your site. Instead, you should simply view these things as part of your Search Engine strategy. You will need to make these things compelling and they will also need to contain your keywords but they are not the only things that you should be concerned about. Nevertheless, you should know that these things will cause your users to want to click through from the Search Engine to your web site.

In reality, you should start off slowly when you are working with Search Engine optimization and then gradually add new things as you learn them. Simply do a search for this on any Search Engine and you will come across a forum wherein people are willing to answer your questions or direct you to some place wherein you can find the answer to your questions.

As you can probably see, understanding Search Engine optimization is not difficult. You will need to be patient though. This very important part of web site marketing will definitely take some time.
